When you wish upon a star

All of your dreams may not necessarily come true. You may not become rich tomorrow, and you may not find your one true love the day after. We may not immediately have world peace, and you might not get that puppy you saw in the store. While shooting stars can’t necessarily guarantee all or even any of that, they can promise one thing – enlightenment.

The thing about an 11:11 wish is that you get a whole minute to make your wish. You can add ands, commas, semicolons, any grammatical cheat that you can think of to make your wish as extensive and all-inclusive as possible. But when it comes to shooting stars, you no longer have that luxury. You have a split second to make your wish before it is nullified by the universe, and adding cheats is no longer appropriate. You have one shot to make one wish.

Its like that example of a coin flip that movies have just about overuse – when caught between two choices, flip a coin and you’ll know which result you want when the coin is in the air.

The second that shooting star zooms past, you know what you want. You have one wish that stands out from the rest, one desire that trumps them all. It may not be something you can verbalize or even think up; you can feel it.

In the classical words of Disney’s “Cinderella”: A dream is a wish your heart makes.

When you see that shooting star, your heart makes a wish. It takes all of your 11:11 desires, your coin flip hopes, and puts them into a feeling.

That feeling isn’t something that leaves you either. It is something that you keep wishing for and desire more and more until it burns like a star within you, and you know that not only is it a wish, but it is a need that you will fight for. When you wish upon a star you receive direction.

The North star is not the only guidance we can find in the sky. Sometimes it is the loose cannon, the star that has lost its place that can show us our truest desires.

8 Reasons Why Now is the Best Time to be a Pats Fan

New England Patriots fans have been devastated by the announcement that Brady’s four game suspension has been upheld by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. However, in the long run the Deflategate fiasco may be a blessing in disguise. Here’s why:

1) The “united front”: Instead of backing down and letting Brady get eaten up by Goodell and his pack of wolves, Pats Nation has stood up alongside Brady to fight the injustice. Show me the evidence!

2) Another reason to fight: Deflategate has given us a whole new reason to fight with rival teams. As if being the best team in the nation wasn’t enough, we are now hated by pretty much every team in the league. FUN! Brady haters are by law Patriot haters, and therefore fan haters as well. Bring it on!

3) No blood no foul: Our team is about the put up the best fight they ever have. What’s scarier than a bunch of angry, HUGE football players? Nothing. Good luck to everyone playing against the Pats this season because their chances of getting flattened have grown exponentially. Gronk SPIKE.

4) 2nd half strong: Brady is going to be less banged up later in the season. Obviously not having your starting quarterback for the first quarter of the season sucks, but it does protect Brady and give him more time to stay fresh.

5) Angry Tommy: We’ve all seen an angry Brady before, but this may very well take him to a new level. His tight spirals will likely reach dangerous speeds this year, but Pats receivers are certainly tough enough to take it. Plan on seeing the score go up very quickly upon Brady’s return. Fire me up!

6) Kraft: Lets be honest, we all love watching Kraft talk. Anytime he speaks it is gold, and seeing him support Brady just gets Pats Nation even more riled up. An angry Kraft is the best Kraft.

7) The truth: Brady didn’t do it. Either this is the greatest bluff of all time, or Brady didn’t do it. There’s really no point in continuing the fight if Brady is guilty, but here we are.

8) Consistency: Everyday is a good day to be a Pats fan. Let the rings do the talking.

Smiling’s my Favorite

Buddy the Elf had it right when he said “smiling’s my favorite”. Honestly, what is better? But more than that, why fight it?

Oftentimes when you “act weird” or laugh at pretty much everything, you’re pegged as immature. But how I see it, that makes you more mature than most of your peers that are trying to fit the “adult” mold. You’re able to look past how society is telling you to act and what you’re “supposed to” enjoy and find something fun in everything you do.

Quite honestly, it makes life a whole lot more fun. Sure glitz and glam is great; but acting stupid and being able to laugh at yourself just seems way more appealing to me. There are certainly places where you have to act a bit more proper, but where does acting proper really get you once you’re beyond those closed doors?

Never mind that, but once you establish a carefree, bubbly mindset it is a lot easier to catch a glimpse of light in the darkest of places. If you take a moment to enjoy all of the little things when everything is going well, then those little things will be all the more appealing when everything seems to be falling apart.

Let smiling become your favorite, and let your hair down. Who doesn’t love Buddy?

What’s the most important thing in your life?

Late night thoughts are usually very personal, and completely private. However, when you stay up until 3 a.m. some of them slip through the cracks.

Last week I went to my friend’s graduation party, surrounded by great food and even better people. As the night dwindled down, 4 of us remained awake helping a friend that had just a little bit too much to drink.

As we sat in a circle, casually chatting, one of the guys asked us – what is the most important thing in your life? As is the typical response, one of the other guys responded – my family and friends.

Then came the zinger; the questioner matter-of-factly told us: this is the most important moment in your life.

Now it might sound like a bit of a stretch to say that very moment of our lives was the most important; however, he was right in saying it was one of them. Most people claim that the two most important things in their life are their friends and family. So through logic it is pretty easy to say that the moments with these people are the most important moments in our lives.

These are moments we oftentimes take for granted. Had my friend not brought up this philosophy, the party would have probably just remained a memory, a good one nonetheless, but still just a memory. Instead, it has acted as a defining moment in my life. Now, when I go out with friends or just sit around with my family, I am sure to dedicate my time to them. Don’t get me wrong, I am just as guilty as the next when it comes to sitting on my phone. It is easy to get caught up in the world’s happenings. But because of that one simple question, I have been challenging myself to put the phone down and enjoy the people that I am with. If the people we are surrounded by are the most important thing in our lives, and the moments we spend with them are the most important moments, then why would we ever want to be focused on anything else?

Now the purpose of this post isn’t to advocate against cellular use or tell people that our society has gotten too caught up with the digital world. Instead, I want the reader to take away this message: appreciate the people that you are with. Appreciate each and every moment that you spend with them. Most people say that the most import thing in their life is their family and friends, so show them that and appreciate what you care for the most. Don’t take them for granted because every moment you spend with the people that matter is one of the most important moments of your life.
